Element Skateboard Characteristics - Featherlight Board Construction
This Element Skateboard has featherlight construction. What is featherlight construction? "'The lightest, strongest skateboard made.' Featherlight is a lightweight 7 ply skateboard that is made in a concave that is engineered to provide strength to the thinner wood layers. This is our original construction that still provides an unmatched lightweight feel with the strength and pop that you expect from a skateboard." - As quoted by the element skateboards website. A few years ago Element was known for super concaved decks. The good thing about concavity is that is strengthens the deck because instead of the deck being a flat beam which is easy to bend and break, the deck becomes more like a C-channel beam which is harder to bend and break. The only problem with too much concavity is that it makes flip tricks weird to flip. It just has a weird feeling under your feet. Lately, Element Skateboard decks have mellowed out their concavity, but we are assuming that this Featherlight construction is normal 7 ply lay up with their own ply thickness (which sounds thinner than the normal) and the perfect glue combination. Also the concavity they are using sounds specially engineered for strength - basically all the right curves in the right places (not too much concavity though).
